life time of the galvanized steel water line is 10 years.
After 10 years, the galvanized steel water line starts the
rusting and it will leak within 30~40 years depend on water
quality. Especially joint part rusting is faster than normal

Copper
line
The life time of this material is about
50 years.
But there are few reasons of copper pipe leaking.
1). If an unexpected rust stuff is on the surface
of copper pipe, this copper pipe will be rusted
very quickly.
2). If you wrapped hot water line with insulated
material very strongly, soldered point may be slightly
melted and leak.
3).If the pipe is not held properly, soldered
part will be broken by the water pressure vibrations.
Propylene
line
The best
point of the polypropylene line is not rust but it is
very weak

Strange
sound from the water line
When
you turn a faucet off after using the water, concerned
water pipe has a vibration because of water pressure.
We call it water hammer. If your water pipe line becomes
loosen because of some loosen pipe holder, you will
hear water hammer sound from the water line.
Low
water pressure
Most
of old water pipe lines have lots of rust materials.
If these rust materials move to the faucet, the faucet
will be clogged and get low water pressure. Also when
these rust materials are too big, all of your house
water pressure will be low.

High
water pressure
Recommendable
water pressure is between 40~80 PSI. When water is supplied
to the meter, normally its pressure shall be about 100PSI.
So you need to reduce water pressure by installing a pressure
regulator.
Useful
tip after shut main valve off
After shut the gate valve off, suggest opening a lowest
hose bib to drain most of water in the pipe. Otherwise,
all remained water will be drained through the point which
you disconnected in the house.
